CHOYA UMESHU CO., LTD. (HQ: Osaka, Habikino City, CEO: Shigehiro Kondo, hereinafter CHOYA) ispleased to announce that The CHOYA Extra Years was awarded Double Gold and “The CHOYA FROM THE BARREL” won the Gold medal at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC).

About The San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC)

Started in 2000, SFWSC is one of the most influential liquor fairs in the world. The 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition was held for the 23rd time this year with more than 3,300 entries from all corners of the world.

There are four award ranks: “Double Gold”, “Gold”, “Silver” and “Bronze”. The judging method is determined by a rigorous blind tasting held by 73 experienced experts. While the Gold medal is awarded to exceptional products that receive very high evaluations, The Double Gold is given only to those that receive a perfect score from all the judges.

Released in August 2018.
A premium type of Umeshu that uses only Japanese Nankoume fruit from Kishu that are slowly steeped in for several years in cane spirit.
The elegant aroma and a deep, luxurious taste create a blissful moment. Enjoy a unique balance of sweetness, acidity, and exotic fragrances of the ume fruit.
Distribution: overseas, limited sales at duty-free shops.

Released in October 2021.
We mature the pure unblended Umeshu for 3 years in a special tank, and then age it for another 2 years in roasted French oak barrels. Rich and complex flavors, with a mellow taste and gentle acidity from the ume’s flesh and notes of almond from the pit, followed by a smoky and luxurious bouquet from the oak cask.
Limited quantities sold mainly in duty-free shops.
